Mothobi Mvala has proven to be a revelation at Mamelodi Sundowns since his arrival in 2020. Despite not possessing the looks of a traditional Sundowns player, the 28-year-old has endeared himself to the team, coaches and fans alike with his hard-working attitude and impressive performances.

Head coach Rulani Mokwena has praised Mvala’s ‘warrior spirit’ and highlighted his physical attributes as the main reason behind the switch from defensive midfielder to centre back.
Mokwena said: “Mothobi has all the top athletic attributes to be a top centre back, especially for the profile of game that we want to play. If we want an extra pass that comes from a deeper ball-playing centre back, Mothobi has that because he has played as a six and he’s got the physical profile, height, speed to supplement the tactical profile.”
The former Highlands Park captain put on a dazzling performance against Orlando Pirates upon the resumption of the league, capped with the opening goal of the match in his side’s 2-0 win. Mokwena continued: “He’s a good person, a gentle giant.
Those that know him will know and I am very happy for him to tell you the truth because I love these type of stories, where no one gives you a chance, the support, or the love and yet to find a way to soften the hearts of the people through your efforts and through your hard work and those are the fairytale stories that I love.”
I was insulted for telling the truth and shining the light on Mothobi Mvala. I was insulted for telling you guys that Teboho Mokoena is the new system at Sundowns. I was insulted when I told you guys that Allende will deliver.
You can’t fight my prophecies forever.
