Confirmed: Chiefs’ Mmodi Move Cancelled

Kaizer Chiefs have surprisingly turned down an opportunity to sign Pule Mmodi, the Siya crew can exclusively reveal. Sources in the know have confirmed that Chiefs had been contacted at the beginning of this week to alert them on the Bafana international’s availability, but the Glamour Boys declined the opportunity.

Since being firstly linked with the Golden Arrows and Bafana Bafana winger at the end of last season, Amakhosi had been expected to re-visit their interest in the 29-year-old again now that the transfer window has opened. However, it appears that Chiefs have decided to look elsewhere, leaving the door open for their rivals to swoop in.

Both Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have been strongly linked with the Theunissen-born player and have been joined in their interest by Arrows’ provincial neighbours AmaZulu. As reported by the Siya crew, Pirates have emerged as favourites to land the attack-minded player’s services, following the latest deal between the Soweto giants and Abafana Bes’thende which has seen Ntsako Makhubela return to KwaZulu-Natal on loan.

An insider confirmed to the Siya crew that a top official from Chiefs said the club has no interest in Mmodi because they are covered in his position. That left the player with no choice but to assess his other options, hence the big possibility of signing for Pirates.
