SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has opened up on his impressive return to form in the 2022/23 DStv Premiership season. After enduring difficult spells with Kaizer Chiefs and Chippa United, Hunt has had a change of fortunes at the Tshwane giants, leading them to second place on the log after winning eight from 14 matches.

Speaking to journalists after his side’s 1-0 victory over Cape Town City on Tuesday, Hunt commented on the latest developments in his career, saying: “Nothing has changed. So, they write you off. You know in football you do 950 games and then you do 10 bad games and that happens. It’s important that I stick to what we know and try and keep updated with modern methods, yes. When they say you are an old-fashioned coach, yes, and this and that.”
The four-time league winning coach went on to explain SuperSport’s approach to development, saying: “Let’s keep up with what we’re doing and try to improve and work on what we need. I know what needs to be done. It’s easy when you can throw money at the situation, but we’re a club that believes in our youth, we’ll build these kids, and we will try and go with them. We’ve got some good ones in the (DStv) Diski (Challenge) and some Cape Town ones as well.”
