Pirates Face Goalkeeping Dilemma Due to Inconsistency?

Orlando Pirates could be forced to make a big goalkeeping decision in the upcoming matches as the team’s number one Richard Ofori is still unavailable due to a knee injury. As confirmed by the club, Ofori is facing another month on the sidelines, which cost him a place in Ghana’s national squad that participated in this year’s FIFA World Cup.

In his absence, Pirates have had Siyabonga Mpontshane playing in coach Jose Riveiro’s team. However, the veteran shot-stopper has been under fire for some of his performances in recent matches, with indications that the 36-year-old could make way for another keeper in the Spanish coach’s team, according to sources.

According to sources, Sipho Chaine, who was signed from Chippa United before the start of the season, could soon be given a chance to prove his worth in the team. Chaine, 26, featured in two DStv Premiership matches for the Chilli Boys this season before moving to the Buccaneers.

“He (Chiane) is working hard in training, and he is ready. He is a good goalkeeper,” said the source.

Orlando Pirates could be set to make a big change in their goalkeeping position for their upcoming matches, as their number one Richard Ofori remains unavailable due to a knee injury. The injury has kept him out for over a month, and cost him a place in Ghana’s national squad for the FIFA World Cup.

In Ofori’s absence, the team has been led by veteran goalkeeper Siyabonga Mpontshane, who has been under fire for some of his performances in recent matches. This has led to speculation that the 36-year-old could be replaced in the team by Sipho Chaine, who was signed from Chippa United before the start of the season.

Chaine, 26, featured in two DStv Premiership matches for the Chilli Boys this season before joining the Buccaneers. Sources have revealed that the goalkeeper is ready and willing to prove himself, and is working hard in training.

Orlando Pirates will face Cape Town City on Saturday in their next league match, and it remains to be seen whether Chaine will be given a chance to prove himself.
