On Friday, 21 July, Kaizer Chiefs were handed a boost ahead of their upcoming match against Sekhukhune United, as their injury concerns over striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana could be eased.
Chiefs had a perfect restart to their season after beating Golden Arrows 2-0 on New Year’s Eve, with goals from Bimenyimana and Edmilson Dove. However, the Burundian forward had to be substituted in the dying minutes of the game due to an injury, and was replaced by youngster Wandile Duba.
The Glamour Boys were also without two key forwards, Ashley Du Preez and Khama Billiat, for the game against Abafana Bes’thende. Head coach Arthur Zwane revealed that Du Preez was meant to start against Arrows but asked to be withdrawn at the eleventh hour due to physical discomfort, while Billiat had just returned from injury and started jogging recently.
Zwane added that Du Preez’s injury is not serious and he could be back by the time they host Sekhukhune United on Saturday evening at FNB Stadium, in a game that will mark the club’s birthday celebrations. Chiefs are currently fourth on the table, ten points behind leaders Mamelodi Sundowns after 14 rounds of matches.
The Glamour Boys will be hoping to get back to winning ways and close the gap between them and the log leaders with a win on Saturday.
