Transfer Ban Won’t Stop Middendorp’s Ambitions

Middendorp and his Swallows troops will now turn their attention to their next assignment against Baroka FC on Friday.

Swallows FC suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Mamelodi Sundowns in the DStv Premiership. Swallows head coach Ernst Middendorp bemoaned the fixture schedule, as the team had to play three matches in six days, due to their return from the long break in December.

Middendorp noted that Sundowns had an extra day of rest, as they had played against Orlando Pirates last Friday, while Swallows were in action on Saturday. He also highlighted the lack of resources at Swallows, with a number of players injured and the FIFA transfer ban making things worse.

The German mentor compared their humble setup with Fiat 500 and said they don’t yet have the capacity to compete in Formula One. He said, “You cannot put something and play ‘Shoeshine’ soccer when you don’t have the resources, you cannot go with Fiat 500 and you want to win Formula One.

hat’s not possible, stick to the resources, stick to what you have and develop it.” Middendorp went on to say that they need to look into their Diski side and bring in Ian Makaringe and other players to help in particular, given the difficulty with the FIFA ban.
