Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams has expressed his delight after keeping his eleventh clean sheet of the league season. The Brazilians extended their winning streak to nine matches after beating Richards Bay 2-0 last Friday, and Williams has been instrumental in their success since his arrival from SuperSport United.

The South African international spoke to the club’s media department and said that the team spirit has been key to their success. “Everything is spot on, when a coach makes so many changes, the guys come in and make a difference, so I would say it’s just the spirit among each other,” he said.
Williams also highlighted the importance of his role when his teammates are doing most of the defending with their high press. “The first game of the season I said I want as many clean sheets as possible, started on a positive note against Cape Town City and ja, it’s wonderful, it’s a team effort,” he said. “Eleven now (clean sheets) in the league, it’s amazing but it’s a collective. It starts on top with a counter press, the guys work so hard and the minimal chances that we do concede that’s when I need to step up and show my worth.”
Sundowns midfielder Themba Zwane also spoke to the club’s media and said that the games coming thick and fast are preparing them for the CAF Champions League group stages, which resumes in February. He expressed his disappointment at not burying at least one or two of the chances he had against Richards Bay, but said he would continue to work hard.
“We’re trying to maintain that winning ways and we try to improve in each and every game, we try to take each game as it comes and we try to push ourselves and get ready for CAF Champions League,” Zwane said. “Every player wants to improve each and every game and try to be more consistent but I’m disappointed with the chances that I got (against Richards Bay), I should have taken maybe one or two. But I would not look down, I’ll continue working hard and try to convert them in the next game.”
