Romain Folz, head coach of AmaZulu FC, expressed his satisfaction after his team’s dominant 4-0 win over Kaizer Chiefs on Friday night. The victory marked Usuthu’s second league win under Folz and the French coach believes that the team can continue to build on their success.
“We’re never happy when we’re giving performances, the fans are telling us better luck next time,” Folz said after the game.
“We’re not happy with that. We know what we can give. I always tell the players that there’s going to come a time where you’re not at your potential, that’s what we do at training, we try to unlock your potential.” Folz was asked what was different in their big win over Chiefs after the sides shared the spoils in their three previous meetings this season in all competitions.
The coach shared that he made a few tactical tweaks which paid off. “We made a few twists tactically, I think you can see that our approach especially of the ball is different, it worked today, something we can still perfect,” he said.
“I think there were certain moments we can be a little bit stronger in terms of distances between our midfield, I think they found pockets of space they should not find.” The French coach also gave credit to the players for their hard work and the fitness team for their efforts. “The effort was incredibly high today. I also give credit to my fitness team,” Folz said.
“I told you before the break we going to do a bit of work on the fitness aspect, you can see now it has improved massively.” Despite the impressive victory, Folz believes that there is still room for improvement.
“I think we could have been safer defensively, for an opponent that can give you problems with a cross, I think our distances we a bit big at times,” he said.
“Also how to deal with the wing areas, you could see first 20 minutes, something that should never happen. There’s still room for improvement. It’s not going to be perfect but the closer you can get to perfection the happier I’m going to be.”
