Sekhukhune Extend Winning Run, Stellies Fall to 13th

On Saturday evening, Sekhukhune United made history by claiming their third successive win in the DStv Premiership, with a 1-0 victory over Stellenbosch FC at the Danie Craven Stadium.

The visitors made their impressive start count with ten minutes left in the second half, when Chibuike Ohizu scored his second league goal of the campaign.

The home side, Stellenbosch, were forced to make a change shortly before the break when defender Lasse Sobiech was replaced by Athenkosi Mcaba due to a clash of heads. Stellies pushed for an equaliser as the second half went on and were nearly rewarded with 20 minutes to go, but Daniel Cardoso popped up with a vital intervention.

The host were presented with a chance from the penalty spot in the 86th minute, but Junior Mendieta saw his effort sail over the crossbar. Sekhukhune were able to see out the rest of the second half to claim their third win in a row, which takes them up to seventh spot on the table, while Stellenbosch drop to 13th.

Deano Van Rooyen also made history, becoming the highest capped player in the top-flight for the Western Cape side after making his 77th appearance.
