Kaizer Chiefs are on the brink of signing Congolese striker Christian Saile Basomboli, who currently plays for Nchanga Rangers in Zambia.
The Soweto giants are currently only registered with two foreign players, Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana from Burundi and Edmilson Dove from Mozambique.
Basomboli’s potential signing would take Chiefs’ foreign quota to three players, with Khama Billiat being the only other foreigner registered as a South African. Compared to their ‘Big Three’ rivals, Chiefs have the least foreigners in their squad.
Mamelodi Sundowns have nine foreign players in their squad, while Orlando Pirates have five, though Olisa Ndah has been linked with a move to the Italian Serie A in recent weeks.
The signing of Basomboli would be a huge boost for the Amakhosi as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season. The Congolese striker is known for his goal-scoring prowess and could be the missing piece of the puzzle for the Soweto giants.
The transfer window will be open for another two weeks and it will be interesting to see if Chiefs make any other moves in the market. With three spots still available for the Soweto giants to go beyond the country’s borders for talent, it could be a busy few weeks for the Amakhosi.
