On Tuesday, Orlando head coach Jose Riveiro praised the role of new striker coach Scott Chickelday after their thumping win over Golden Arrows. The Buccaneers had struggled for goals after the FIFA World Cup break, losing two successive matches against Mamelodi Sundowns and Cape Town City.
Chickelday was recruited by the Sea Robbers barely two weeks ago and his influence in the team may already be telling after the 3-1 win over Arrows. Riveiro says the 48-year old’s contribution already still new in the job cannot be understated, just as any other member of the technical team.
“I want to think that the contribution of all the members in the staff is very important and how the game is going nowadays,” Riveiro told reporters in a press conference.
“You’re talking about one element in the staff, so his contribution is there, he’s here working for us, it’s for a reason. And today (Saturday) in the conditions we play, it was very demanding for all of us, the support staff, the technical staff did a fantastic job.”
The Spanish tactician went on to explain that the input of specialists prior to and during the game plays a big role in the decision-making process, as he can’t do it all alone.
“We had to make a lot of decisions before the game, during the week, during the game today in the last 20 minutes. Jesus, we were around four, five possibilities, I cannot do it alone,” he said.
“The relevance of the coaching staff nowadays is obviously very important. It goes without saying. So I want all of them to feel that they are important, they are part of today’s victory and Scott is not an exception,” he added.
