Blom Ready for MLS Adventure with New Club

On Wednesday, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom opened up on the opportunity to play under South African coach and legend Bradley Carnell at St. Louis City SC. Carnell had a three-year spell between 2017 and 2020 as assistant coach at New York Red Bulls, one of four teams owned by Red Bull. Blom’s move to St. Louis City coincides with him having to work with a familiar coach in a different continent and says he has already spoken to Carnell after he was signed from Amakhosi in December last month.

“We spoke me and coach Bradley, obviously he was briefing me on how he wants to play and how he wants to use me,” Blom said on Metro FM Sports. “And I must say I’m looking forward to that and looking forward to working with coach Bradley and help the team, just get along with the new guys I’ll meet that side.”

However, the 23-year old went on to explain that he won’t take things for granted just because Carnell is from South Africa, although that will help him with his transition.

“I think it makes things easier for me as player but obviously as a young player I still have to work hard to play in the team, I have to help the team get maximum points,” he said. “I’m not gonna go there and relax and say, ‘Ah, coach Bradley is from South Africa and things will go easy’, I’ll go there and work hard, hopefully help the team to win things,” he added.

Blom is still awaiting his visa before he joins his new club and teammates ahead of the new 2023 MLS season which starts towards the end of February.
