Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make a crucial decision at the end of the current campaign regarding two of their stars. Earlier in the season, Lyle Lakay was sent to Cape Town City on loan in order to make way for Bafana Bafana left-back Terrence Mashego.
Lakay has been in impressive form for the Citizens, and was even selected as the PSL’s Defender of the Season at the end of the previous campaign. On the other hand, Mashego has been hampered by injury and has only made one appearance for the Brazilians since his arrival.
According to sources close to the club, Sundowns could be open to the idea of swapping the two players around in another loan deal at the end of the season. It is believed that Cape Town City are interested in making a permanent move for Lakay, while Mashego could return to Sundowns on loan.
Aubrey Modiba has been the first choice left-back for Downs this season, with Sifiso Ngobeni providing cover in the same position. Whatever the outcome, the decision will be a crucial one for both the players and the club.
