Former Mamelodi Sundowns player Brent Carelse has urged the club to do all they can to retain the services of experienced midfielder Andile Jali. The 32-year-old’s contract is due to expire at the end of the season and there have been ongoing talks between the two parties to discuss a new deal.
Jali has attracted interest from other PSL clubs, however Carelse believes the DStv Premiership champions should make every effort to keep him. With Sundowns entering a crucial stage of the season, with three competitions to compete in, Carelse believes Jali’s influence could be invaluable.
“Any team in South Africa should be wanting Andile Jali. I think Sundowns should definitely try to renew his contract, unless they feel he has done enough. I played against him when he was still young at Pirates. He has a lot of confidence in his ability and that feeds off to his teammates, which makes them better players. They should hold onto him,” Carelse said to the Siya crew.
“He also performs when he is called upon and has a major influence on the outcome of matches. He is a quality player and very important, especially now.”
With Jali’s contract situation still unresolved, it remains to be seen whether or not Sundowns will be able to keep hold of the experienced midfielder. However, Carelse believes it is vital for the club to do all they can to ensure he remains at the club.
