On Sunday, Kaizer Chiefs suffered a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the league, making it their third consecutive defeat. The result has caused many to suggest that the lack of quality players at the club is to blame for their struggles this season.

However, Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane has a different opinion. He believes that the players are getting used to a system and have been unfortunate to miss key players in various stages. He said: “We do have the quality. You’ll have the quality but with habits, I don’t know if you understand what I’m saying. Quality is the players that you have in your team that understand the system, individually who are talented and you know that they can easily fit in in the team of Kaizer Chiefs’ calibre.”
He went on to explain that Chiefs have been unlucky to miss key players due to injuries in crucial stages of the season. “In terms of as soon as we get it right, we’ll miss two or three players due to injuries, due to unforeseen circumstances, things you can’t control unfortunately. When you look at that we came into this game, about six senior players who are not available, you understand what I’m saying?”
With senior players unavailable, Zwane has been forced to play youngsters. He has been encouraging them to do their best and believes that some of them have done well for themselves so far. He concluded: “I can’t come to you and say, ‘But ja my senior players are not available’, no, I’m a coach. We’ve got equally good youngsters that also played (against Sundowns). This is their opportunity. Some of them so far have done well for themselves and we just need to keep on encouraging them until we get it right.”
