On Friday, the DStv Premiership side Swallows FC confirmed that the transfer ban imposed on them by FIFA has been lifted.
The ban was imposed due to the non-payment of monies owed to former players Obren Cuckovic and Vladimir Mandic. The Slovenians had taken Swallows to FIFA for breach of contract and won the case, resulting in the Dube Birds being unable to sign new players for a certain period.
This affected players such as Evans Rusike, Daniel Gozar and Promise Mkhuma. Daniel Akpeyi, who had been training with the club, remains to be seen if he will be signed. Ally Msengi and David Ulomi were also previously not able to be registered due to the ban.
In a statement released on Friday, Swallows said, “The outstanding matter with Fifa has been resolved. The ban is lifted. Players that were affected by the ban will now be registered.”
The non-payment of monies emanated from the Moroka Swallows franchise and was inherited by the current owners. With the ban now lifted, the club will be able to move forward and make use of the transfer window.
