Chiefs Break Winless Diski Streak with Dominant 5-0 Victory

The weekend in the DStv Diski Challenge saw some thrilling action as teams battled to get maximum points in their respective matches.

Kaizer Chiefs put an end to their three-game winless run with a 5-0 thrashing of Golden Arrows at Dobsonville Stadium. Donay Jansen was the hero of the day, scoring a hat-trick for the Soweto giants, while Mfundo Vilakazi and Bafana Zitha were also on target.

Orlando Pirates returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Richards Bay at Rand Stadium. Njabulo Mndebele broke the deadlock in the second half, before Mpumelelo Ndaba doubled the lead for Buccaneers. Ndaba had the chance to make it 3-0 with seven minutes to go from the penalty spot, but he dragged his spot-kick wide.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ two-game winning run was halted after a 1-1 draw against table-toppers Cape Town City at Malta Park Sports Ground. The Brazilians took an early lead, but were denied victory, as City skipper Lonwabo Magugwana snatched the equaliser in the last minute.

SuperSport United secured back-to-back victories after hammering Marumo Gallants 6-4 at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium. SuperSport raced to a three-goal lead just before the half-time break, before John Chuene pulled a goal back for Gallants. However, United scored two quick goals themselves to re-establish a two-goal cushion just after the hour-mark, before Kwetiane brought back hope for Gallants. SuperSport scored again from the restart to finally wrap up the three points.

Ten-man Maritzburg United won two games on the bounce after edging Chippa United 1-0 at Harry Gwala Stadium. Maritzburg were down to ten men with ten minutes left of the first stanza after goalkeeper Langa got a red-card, but Asanda Buthelezi scored in the last 25 minutes to secure the win.

Elsewhere, Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch played to a 3-3 draw, AmaZulu and TS Galaxy shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw, while Royal AM defeated Swallows 2-0.
