Kaizer Chiefs picked up their first win of the season on Thursday, as they defeated Royal AM 1-0 at their home base in Polokwane.
Head coach Arthur Zwane revealed why he dropped regulars Itumeleng Khune and Zitha Kwinika for the crucial clash, citing individual errors as the reason for the shake-up.

Zwane made three changes to the matchday squad, replacing the injured Nkosingiphile Ngcobo with Mduduzi Shabalala, and Brandon Petersen and Siyabonga Ngezana in place of Khune and Kwinika.
“When it comes to Itu and Kwinika, we’ve been playing very well. Unfortunately, when you look at the goals we’ve conceded, [it was] individual errors, not team mistakes and those things happen but we had to make changes here and there because we have a very big squad. And we have to give other players the opportunities as well, to showcase their talent and they responded positively,” Zwane said after the game.
He added that he was pleased with how the changes had worked out and praised the youngsters for their performance.
“We are creating that competition where everyone will show that hunger and compete, so far all of them have responded positively,” he said.
The win was a much needed boost for Kaizer Chiefs, who had failed to collect any points in their first three games of the season. The team will be hoping to use the momentum to pick up more points in their upcoming matches.
