Mamelodi Sundowns are set to make a late dash to the CAF Champions League registration deadline, with the club unlikely to make any major additions to the squad ahead of the round robin phase of the continental club competition.
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has allowed clubs to register up to 40 players, 10 more than what was previously allowed, with the deadline for the additional registration of players set for Thursday.
The transfer window in the PSL will also close on the same day, leaving Sundowns with a limited amount of time to make any changes to their squad.
The Siya crew understands that the club is content with the quality they have at their disposal, as they look to get their hands on a second Champions League title.
The allowance of 40 players gives the club an opportunity to include as many players as possible, to ensure they have enough depth in the competition.
“According, each club will be exceptionally allowed to register 40 players instead of the regulatory 30. Moreover, nine substitutes will be allowed on the bench instead of the regulatory seven,” CAF issued in a statement.
As is the case in South African football, clubs will be allowed to make five substitutes during the matches.
Sundowns, though, are unlikely to have Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil available during the group stage campaign, due to the player nursing an injury.
The Brazilians are in the same group with Al Ahly, Al Hilal and Coton Sport.
