SuperSport United have secured the services of Zakhele Lepasa on loan from Orlando Pirates, with the club CEO Stan Matthews revealing that it was another Buccaneers player they were keen on, before Pirates made a U-turn.
As reported by the Siya crew last year, SuperSport had opened talks with Pirates for Terrence Dzvukamanja, who was set for a reunion with his former coach Gavin Hunt. However, the player has since experienced an upturn in fortunes at Pirates, which led to the club making a U-turn on the initial decision to send him out on loan to Matsatsantsa, as confirmed to the Siya crew by Matthews.
“Frankly speaking, I appreciated the loan because we wanted to add to our strike force and originally it was going to be Terrence that we were trying to get, and you know they decided they didn’t want to release the Terence and obviously we respected that,” he told the Siya crew at the Ikhokha Sponsorship announcement.
“But you know Lepasa was also an option for us because in actual fact, they’re not the same, so it’s not like Lepasa replaced Terrence, but we were looking for an attacking edge to the team and Zakhele gives us that. He’s mobile, he works hard. He does a nice hard press, which Gavin wants a high press,” he continued.
Dzvukamanja has featured in Pirates’ last three matches, all of which have resulted in victory for the Buccaneers.
