Kaizer Chiefs head coach, Arthur Zwane, has revealed the reasons why the team has been struggling to put together a sustained winning streak this season. Speaking ahead of their Nedbank Cup last 32 clash against Maritzburg United, Zwane attributed their lack of consistency to an unfortunate run of injuries.
“I think we have been unfortunate when it comes to injuries and consistency this season, simply because whenever we get to the third game or second game we’ll lose a very key player due to injuries or unforeseen circumstances,” Zwane said in a press conference.
The Glamour Boys have already been dealt a major blow with the news that star forward Khama Billiat will be ruled out for the rest of the season due to a groin muscle injury. Joining Billiat on the treatment table is Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, who has a thigh muscle injury that will also require surgery. Reeve Frosler and Dillan Solomons have also been ruled out for at least a month due to injuries sustained in the same match against Royal AM.
“We lost two players in one game, we lost Caleb (Bimenyimana), we lost Keagan (Dolly) in the other game, he was out. If you can look at it from the beginning of the season one in Richards Bay in Durban, one man down,” Zwane said.
“We can’t obviously focus on that, we have to focus on the positives that we’ve done so far. Those positives have worked for us and we’ll keep on doing that, go for corrections most of the time and we know that we’ll eventually get it right,” he added.
Chiefs will face Maritzburg United on Friday in a crucial Nedbank Cup round of 32 clash.
