Downs’ CAF Squad List: Young Striker Included for Group Stages

Mamelodi Sundowns have registered 38 players in their squad for the upcoming CAF Champions League campaign, with two youngsters included in the list.

The South African side will take on Sudanese outfit Al Hilal in their opening group stage clash at Loftus Stadium on Saturday, having come up against the same side in the last two editions of the competition.

The new regulations of the Champions League allows clubs to register up to 40 players, giving Sundowns an opportunity to include everyone, even players who have been out recovering from injuries. The Premiership champions will have more players to call upon in the competition should they have any problems with injuries and suspensions.

Diski Challenge products Ntando Nkosi and Jerome Karelse have been included in the squad, and the experience of being involved in the Champions League, whether or not they play, could go a long way in taking their careers to another level.

The list also includes the likes of Gift Motupa and Lesedi Kapinga, who were linked with exits from the club during the January transfer window. Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil, who was signed last year, has also been included in the squad, though he has not been available since joining the defending champions.

Katlego Mohamme, who is yet to make a competition appearance for the side this season, has also been registered to play in the competition.
