Orlando Pirates head coach Jose Riveiro has commented on the sudden departure of striker coach Scott Chickelday, who recently announced his departure from the club after a five-week stint.
Chickelday’s arrival at Pirates was announced on 5 January, with his departure being announced on 5 February without any official confirmation from Pirates. Riveiro has now responded to the coach’s short-lived stint at Pirates.

“It was a new thing for all of us to have a striker coach in the staff. It was an interesting experience,” said Riveiro in a press conference at the Nedbank Cup media day.
“We are in a club which is always looking for improvement in every area, every department we try to go ahead in, and the presence of Scott was positive. We try to continue also from the things that we learned from Scott to implement in our group to continue working on it.” Riveiro went on to suggest that the club is open to the possibility of having a similar figure in the future.
In the five matches in which Chickelday was at the club, Pirates managed 11 goals, compared to the six they had managed in the five matches prior to that.
Pirates now face a tricky Nedbank Cup fixture against Motsepe Foundation Championship side All Stars at the Bidvest Stadium on Saturday. Kick off is at 20:00pm.
