On Friday, All Stars head coach Sinethemba Badela expressed his pride in his team’s performance against Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup.
Despite the Motsepe Foundation Championship side’s eventual 2-0 loss, Badela praised his charges for their competitive performance against the Soweto giants. “I thought we did well for the first 60 minutes,” Badela said.
“We stuck to the plan and had a few chances on transition, but we made a few mistakes.” Despite All Stars’ strong start, two second-half goals from Monnapule Saleng and Thembinkosi Lorch sealed the win for the visitors. Badela believes that his team can compete with top-flight teams, but acknowledged that individual mistakes were punished by the Buccaneers.
“We can compete,” Badela said. “You could see we can compete. There were times where we were playing, but I thought we could have been a little bit more brave on the ball, some individual mistakes, but that’s why we’ll go home and look at the game.” The coach concluded by saying that his team will learn from their mistakes, and that they must learn to punish their opponents when they make mistakes.
