The Siya crew understands that the Brazilians will now shift their focus to other targets, as the deal for Pule appears to be off the table.
On Friday, Mamelodi Sundowns’ attempt to acquire the services of Orlando Pirates winger Vincent Pule was revealed to have hit a stumbling block.
According to sources close to the delicate deal, the former Bidvest Wits attacker had become a priority signing for the Chloorkop-based side, but Pirates were initially reluctant to part ways with one of their prized assets.
We reported that the Sea Robbers put a price tag of over R10 million for the services of Pule, who recently signed a new contract at the Houghton-based outfit. Although money has never been a stumbling block for the Brazilians to get their targets, the powers that be at Sundowns had reservations about the asking price due to Pule’s age – he turns 31 next month – and the fact that he may not be the right investment for the future.
From Pule’s perspective, his career could actually get a boost at Pirates after a strong interest for his services from the reigning champions. The soon-to-be 31-year old has featured in all five matches since he recovered from a recurring injury and scored a decisive goal in the Buccaneers’ 3-1 win over Golden Arrows, which turned their fortunes around.
The QwaQwa native was previously valued at around €800, 000 (+- R15,3 million) at the back end of 2022, but is now valued at €1 million (+- R19 million) according to transfer market website Transfermarkt.co.za. It appears that the deal for Pule is now off the table, and Sundowns will shift their focus to other targets.
