Following reports that Al Ahly did not respond to Mamelodi Sundowns’ attempts to revive talks to sign Percy Tau before the close of the PSL transfer window, new information has emerged suggesting that there is interest in the South African international from Belgium.
Tau, who joined Al Ahly from Brighton and Hove Albion in 2021, has seen limited game time under the Egyptian giants and has been linked with an exit ever since former Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane left his post in June last year. It is believed that the 28-year old could be set for a return to Belgium, where he made his name for Royale Union Saint Gilloise, Club Brugge and Anderlecht during his time on loan from the Seagulls.
As reported in edition 1310 of Soccer Laduma, Al Ahly are only willing to part ways with Tau if interested parties meet their valuation. It is understood that the Red Devils bought the forward for around R32 million and are looking to recoup that amount when they negotiate for his potential sale.
Belgium has been a stepping stone for many players to major European leagues, with South African forward Lyle Foster recently signing for Burnley from KVC Westerlo and Brazilian right-back Vitinho joining Cercle Brugge at the beginning of the season. Al Ahly were also recently eliminated from the FIFA Club World Cup by Real Madrid, and may be wary of not strengthening one of their rivals in the CAF Champions League.
