On Monday, South African football lost one of its legends, Orlando Pirates’ John Moeti. Moeti was a role model to many professionals coming through the ranks in his playing days, but he was one of the former players who were not involved directly with the club post his playing days.
Kaizer Chiefs head coach Arthur Zwane was recently asked whether PSL clubs are doing enough to give back to the legends once they have hung up their boots. Zwane explained that it’s up to the individuals to keep themselves relevant.
“When it comes to the legends, it’s what you do in order for you to remain relevant, you know, in the game. Some of us after our playing days we still want to add value in many ways,” Zwane said in a Nedbank Cup press conference ahead of their game against Maritzburg United.
He went on to say that teams can only do so much and it’s also up to legends to prove that they can add value to the teams.
“So it boils down to one thing, what is it that we want to do as legends, so I would not think that the teams did not want to help. I think the teams, they have played their part but also they are not gonna do it to each and every one of us. It’s about the passion, it’s about the love for the game, it’s about what you can contribute, then the teams will take it from there,” Zwane added.
Kaizer Chiefs will take on Maritzburg United on Friday evening in the Nedbank Cup sold out last 32 clash at Harry Gwala Stadium.
