On Friday, former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Brent Carelse expressed his hopes for the club’s in-form player Cassius Mailula. Carelse believes that Mailula should be exposed to more pressure matches, and hopes that the 21-year-old can reach Europe and become a regular in the Bafana Bafana squad.
Mailula, from Limpopo, has become the youngest player in the PSL era to reach double figures in a season for the club, with seven goals in the DSTV Premiership and three in the Champions League. He is now just one goal behind the top scorer at the club, Peter Shalulile.
Carelse has been impressed with Mailula’s progress this season and believes that the player should be exposed to more pressure matches in order to reach his full potential. “What a player. I’m enjoying every time I watch him play. You can see he loves scoring goals and I hope he continues this rich vein of form,” Carelse said. “It’s very important for them to keep him grounded, but I also think we should expose him to even more and I hope he becomes a regular in the national team and does well on the continental stage and hopefully we see him in one of the top leagues in Europe soon.”
