Chiefs’ Bvuma to Bide His Time Despite Drought in Games

Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma has played just four games this season, but he is willing to wait for his opportunity at Amakhosi.

He is currently battling with Itumeleng Khune and Brandon Petersen for the number one jersey. This season has seen all three of Chiefs’ goalkeepers get an opportunity to stake their claim to be the club’s first choice goalkeeper.

Bvuma started the season in Khune’s absence in Chiefs’ opening matches of the campaign, although he lost the jersey to Petersen, who has since been the preferred choice in recent times.

Despite his ongoing game drought, Bvuma says he is willing to wait for his opportunity between the sticks for Chiefs once again.

“We have four quality goalkeepers at Chiefs. I was given a chance, I played and then they decided to change but for some good reasons for the team. They played Itu and he did well, now they’re playing Brandon and he’s doing well so all I have to do is wait for my chance and hope that it will come again,” he said at the Nedbank Cup last 16 draw in Randburg.

At 27, and with the need to play regular football constantly increasing, Bvuma says he is not overly concerned with his current situation. “For me, as I’m not playing, I just have to keep on working hard and make sure that I’m ready because you never know what’s going to happen, so that’s what the coach is saying, that you need to keep on working hard and your chance will come.

Every player wants to play and in the team there’s more than 30 of us and you can’t play each and everyone, so whoever is being picked on the day, as long as they’re doing well, they’re not gonna get changed. Brandon has been doing well for the team so all I can do is support him, work hard and wait for my chance.” Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma is currently in a battle with Itumeleng Khune and Brandon Petersen for the number one jersey.
