On Friday, an insider has predicted a bright future for Mamelodi Sundowns’ on-loan player, Etiosa Godspower Ighodaro. Currently playing at Chippa United, Ighodaro is in the running for this season’s Golden Boot, tied with Cassius Mailula of Sundowns and Bradley Grobler and Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana of SuperSport United and Kaizer Chiefs respectively, all on seven goals, behind the leading goalscorer, Peter Shalulile, on nine.
The Nigerian forward is said to be in the plans at Chloorkop to finally get a chance to prove his worth after overcoming his injury troubles. “Look around the league and find an in-form striker who can use both feet and head so well and who is doing better than Ighodaro, and I doubt you will get many. That boy is on top of his game and doing well at Chippa United and has impressed his parent club, Mamelodi Sundowns,” said the source.
The source continued, “Look at the team (Sundowns) now, and yes the results have been good as everyone can see, but one can see that there is a need for a striker to be added to the team. Ighodaro is earmarked for a return and he could be one of the players to assist (Cassius) Mailula in scoring goals. As much as Mailula is doing well and scoring goals, he could do even better if he can play primarily as a second striker and having someone as big in shape as Ighodaro playing in front of him as a target man and they can score a lot of goals while there are also the likes of Peter Shalulile and others who are equally good.”
It appears that Ighodaro is set to make a return to Mamelodi Sundowns and make an impact in the team’s goal-scoring prospects. With his impressive performance in the DStv Premiership, it will be interesting to see how he will contribute to the team’s success.
