Former Kaizer Chiefs player Robson Muchichwa believes that Khama Billiat should consider a move to North Africa if Amakhosi do not renew his contract at the end of the season. Billiat’s contract with the South African club is due to expire in a few months and, at this stage, the club has not yet put a new offer on the table.
The 32-year-old Zimbabwean international has previously attracted interest from clubs in Egypt and Morocco and it remains to be seen if any of those clubs will make an offer for his services. Muchichwa believes that a move to North Africa could be beneficial for Billiat and his career.
“I think North Africa, where there are these big teams… I think if Chiefs don’t retain him, that’s where he should look to. If he gets a team in North Africa, he can revive his career as well. That will be a boost on his side. It’s not the end of Khama. You can’t be a bad player overnight. He is still has three or four seasons to give. It’s a question of time, because every player has a downfall,” Muchichwa said.
The former Chiefs player believes that Billiat’s form is dependent on the team’s performance and that a change of environment could be what he needs to get back to his best.
“His form goes along with the team. The team has not been doing well. Sometimes it’s the quality of players, but it also counts. We have to talk about the quality of players (at Chiefs), because the Khama I know is the one who played for Sundowns. It will be an opportunity for him if he can get signed (by Chiefs) or else he goes to North Africa. I think he has a chance in those countries in North Africa. He would be a different player in a different environment. It’s just a question of environment. He can still give a lot. Don’t be surprised to hear teams saying they want to sign because they know him. Some of these countries believe in experienced players. He still has it. I don’t know how Chiefs will see the situation. Somebody might see it as an opportunity to grab him, you know what I mean? It also wouldn’t be bad for Chiefs to give him a contract because he can still play for some years,” Muchichwa added.
Billiat has been ruled out for the rest of the campaign after undergoing surgery on an injury.
