Kaizer Chiefs have an opportunity to achieve a rare feat this weekend when they face Golden Arrows in the DSTV Premiership. If they manage to keep a clean sheet, it will be the first time in the league this season that Amakhosi have kept three consecutive clean sheets. Chiefs have already kept two clean sheets in their last two league matches, against TS Galaxy and Royal AM.
The last time Chiefs faced Arrows was on the final day of the 2022 season, when they registered a 2-0 victory. Since then, they have struggled for form until recently when they beat Royal AM by the same scoreline at FNB Stadium. That was followed by another clean sheet in the goalless draw against Galaxy, which was only the second time this season that the Soweto giants have kept two clean sheets in a row in the Premiership.
Now, as they prepare to take on Arrows, there is an opportunity to make it three clean sheets and head coach Arthur Zwane would be confident after watching his back four keep it tight in their last two Premiership clashes. Siyabonga Ngezana, who had a difficult first half of the season, has come back recently and played an important role in the back four. He played as a centre back in the victory over Royal AM, but performed well as a right back in the Premiership clash against Galaxy, as well as in the Nedbank Cup last 32 against Maritzburg United last Friday.
The clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Golden Arrows will take place at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, and the Amakhosi will be looking to complete the double this season over Abafana’Besthende and achieve the rare feat of three consecutive clean sheets.
