On Friday evening, Orlando Pirates made a triumphant return to the Orlando Stadium as they defeated Maritzburg United 2-1 in the DStv Premiership.
Pirates started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and creating a number of chances, but it was Maritzburg who had the first real opportunity to open the scoring.
Rowan Human was presented with a free header in the box, but he guided it wide of the target. The Soweto giants responded with a change, bringing on Kabelo Dlamini in place of Thembinkosi Lorch, and the move paid dividends as Terrence Dzvukamanja doubled their lead with a diving header in the box from Saleng’s cross.
Maritzburg refused to give up and set up a nervy finish when Tumelo Njoti found the back of the net with a superb strike from the edge of the box.
