Two minutes later, Mailula turned provider, picking out Thapelo Morena whose effort was blocked but Khuliso Mudau was on hand to head into an empty net. Patient Wassou got the hosts back in the contest against the run of play, finishing composedly in the 30th minute.
However, Sundowns would restore their two-goal cushion before the break as Mailula latched onto Aubrey Modiba’s through-ball before slotting into the bottom corner.
The second half saw Sundowns come close to adding to their lead on several occasions, with Teboho Mokoena’s long-range effort being palmed away by goalkeeper Gadin Allambatnan. However, the visitors were able to hold on for the win, with Mailula’s brace ensuring that they remain top of Group A.
