Billiat Opens Up on Frustration of Being Ruled Out”

Khama Billiat has opened up on his frustrating spell on the sidelines after being ruled out for the remainder of the 2022/23 season.

The 32-year-old Zimbabwean watched on as his Kaizer Chiefs teammates succumbed to a 3-2 come-from-behind defeat at the hands of Golden Arrows on Sunday – their eighth defeat of the season.

Billiat’s head coach Arthur Zwane confirmed that the midfielder is ruled out for the remainder of the campaign. Now, addressing the media in Polokwane, Billiat opened up on his spell on the sidelines, as well as his contribution to helping his teammates in this period.

“It’s frustrating, especially when it takes longer than what you expected it to be. It’s really frustrating, because we can only contribute as much as we can when we are fit and we always want to contribute positively to the team. But as much as we are injured and on the sidelines, we can only motivate the guys and try watch the games, and make sure you give your input when we reflect on the games and just be part of it so that your little contribution can help the team,” he said.

Billiat also revealed the mental toll being injured has taken on him as he works his way back to full fitness.

“You need to be mentally strong and honestly it’s not easy as we say, you have to be mentally strong because you just wanna play football, because that’s what we know best, so being outside takes a really big mental strain,” he explained.
