Mamelodi Sundowns are set to reward one of their rising stars, Cassius Mailula, with a five-year professional contract. The 21-year-old attacker has impressed for the Brazilians this season, and has been a standout performer for their DStv Diski Challenge side.
Mailula has been a key player for Sundowns in the absence of Peter Shalulile, and has earned plaudits for his performances. The youngster has already scored 12 goals in all competitions, and is tipped for the Young Player of the Season award.
Speaking to the Siya crew, a source said: “The boy has signed a five-year contract. When he was promoted he was still using his contract from the MDC, but now he is a full senior team member and that’s why they had to give him a new five-year professional contract. It’s good for both the player and the team. He is still young and has a great future. You know other people are saying that him and Monnapule Saleng of Orlando Pirates are reminding them of the times of Steve Lekolea at Pirates and Jabu Pule at Kaizer Chiefs. They are bringing the supporters back to the stadium. It’s good for our football.”
Mailula’s agency, P Management, led by lawyer Karabo Mathang, declined to comment on the matter.
