Kaizer Jr Shares Insights on Chiefs’ Strategies to Strengthen Technical Team

Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director Kaizer Motaung Jnr has revealed that the club has plans to bolster their technical team with specialists, following the appointment of striker coach Scott Chickelday by Orlando Pirates and set-piece coach Michael Loftman by Mamelodi Sundowns.

Speaking at a Soweto Derby press conference ahead of the upcoming match, Motaung Jnr said that Chiefs have always had plans to build their technical team, but the “expertise” has to be the right level and that they don’t want to be doing things just because other teams are doing them.

“We’re always looking to improve and we’re looking to see what the trends in modern football are and not do things for the sake of doing them when other clubs are doing them. It’s got to work, everything has to be functional and everything has got to add value,” he said.

Motaung Jnr’s comments come after Chiefs made changes in the sports science field in the off-season, appointing Muzi Maluleke as a senior Sports Scientist and Strength and Conditioning coach in their new high performance department.

The Glamour Boys are set to face Orlando Pirates in the highly-anticipated Soweto Derby this weekend, with both teams looking to make their mark in the league.
