Kaizer Chiefs fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Sabelo Radebe to the first team, with the talented midfielder having not played for the club since September last year.
On Monday, head coach Arthur Zwane finally provided an explanation for the 24-year-old’s absence.
Radebe was promoted to the club’s first team in 2021 under Gavin Hunt and had been performing well with the club’s DStv Diski Challenge. However, in three seasons, he has made just 13 appearances, a worrying statistic for the club and its supporters.
Upon the appointment of Zwane, who was pivotal to Radebe’s initial promotion, there was a sense of optimism that the midfielder would get more playing time. But, so far this season he has played just 48 minutes of football, leading to speculation that he could be sent out on loan in order to gain much-needed game-time.
Speaking to journalists at the Wanderers Country Club, Zwane said, “I think I know Bibo better than any of us. Unfortunately at training he hasn’t been himself, trying very hard and working very hard. Anytime soon, he’ll get his opportunity. As you know, in terms of results, we’ve been blowing hot and cold, so we’re also trying to get the combinations right with injuries here and there. I think Bibo will also get his chance when the time comes.”
Kaizer Chiefs fans will be hoping that Radebe will soon get his chance to shine and prove his worth to the team.
