On Monday, Kaizer Chiefs go into the Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates as underdogs. Despite the recent results for both teams, midfielder Keagan Dolly believes that Amakhosi can overcome the challenge. At the Soweto Derby press conference held ahead of the game, Dolly offered advice to some of the derby debutants.
“As always, I tell them not to play to the occasion,” he said. “We know it’s a big game. We know what’s at stake. Once they start concentrating on the occasion and see how packed the FNB Stadium is, then they will lose focus. They have to stay in the moment, focus on the game first and if we win, we will celebrate later. And start focusing on the outside factors. But its the game first.”
One of the young players expected to make an impact in Chiefs side is Mduduzi Shabalala, who has experienced a meteoric rise at the Soweto giants, scoring two goals for the senior team since his promotion from the development structures at the start of the season.
The Glamour Boys will be hoping that Shabalala can produce a moment of magic on the day and help Chiefs secure their first Soweto Derby win in over two years.
