Cape Town City Chairman John Comitis has commented on the situation of star midfielder Mduduzi Mdantsane after his proposed transfer to Kaizer Chiefs fell through on transfer deadline day.
The Siya crew reported that everything for the move, including the transfer fee, had been concluded, and with only the official paperwork outstanding, Chiefs changed their minds at the last minute. City in return, exercised the one-year option on Mdantsane’s contract until June 2024.
Comitis was asked whether the situation puts pressure on City to sell their all-time top goalscorer in the next transfer window, to which he replied that his side would have no problems in holding onto their star player.
“With Mdu, we’ll sit with him and extend it even longer. We’ll sit with him and give him a new contract. With us, he’s part of our plans, he’s an asset to the club and we’ll continue with him,” he told the Siya crew.
Mdantsane was the Cape outfit’s standout player during the 2021/22 season, making 32 appearances in all competitions, 28 of those as a starter. He finished as the club’s top scorer with 10 goals and one assist.
This season, he is yet to score although Comitis is not worried by his lack of potency this campaign. “Listen, he’s just got to find his scoring boots, because he is doing everything else right, he’s just got to put the ball in the back of the net a few more times, like he did a couple of seasons in a row. There’s no pressure on him from the club and he’s in our plans,” he concluded.
