Mashamaite Praises Matlou: ‘Chiefs Strong Enough Without Additional Support’

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender and captain Tefu Mashamaite believes this
is the season for midfielder George Matlou to prove himself. In an
exclusive interview with PSLSA, Mashamaite stated that Matlou has
established himself very well, controlling the midfield of Chiefs this
season and placing his hand up for selection.

“I think that the former Swallows midfielder, Matlou is so far showing
that he is the player to watch. This could be his season as I see it,”
Mashamaite told PSLSA.

“He has gone into that midfield and thrown the spanner into the works. He
has shown what kind of quality he has and what kind of heart. If you look
at how he played against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the MTN8
semi-finals you can understand what I am talking about.”

Masha added that the competition and combinations in other departments
make Chiefs a better team this season despite criticism over their
results. He highlighted the goalkeeping department, the defence, and the
midfield as areas where the team is well sorted.

“It’s the same with the defence. They have two good signings (Given
Msimango and Thatayaone Ditlhokwe) and that just shows you the level of
the competition in that position with Njabulo Ngcobo also coming in. Then
on the left back you have (Edmilson) Dove giving (Sifiso) Hlanti a run for
his money. He comes in and scores a winning goal. Now Hlanti can’t relax.
Then on the right you have (Reeve) Frosler though at times he makes
mistakes but is very good. Then the midfield is full of great players. The
only department that I feel is still lacking is the striking force but at
the moment I don’t think they need any reinforcement. The squad is well
balanced,” Mashamaite observed.

Mashamaite believes this is the season for George Matlou to prove himself.
With his individual performances in the games Matlou has played so far,
the former defender and captain is confident that the former Moroka
Swallows midfielder has what it takes to become a key player in Kaizer
Chiefs’ squad this season.
