The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has charged Kaizer Chiefs with spectator
misbehaviour and unruly conduct following an incident at FNB Stadium on
Saturday. The incident occurred after the Soweto giants’ defeat to AmaZulu
in the Carling Knockout, when Chiefs supporters threw objects towards
former coach, Molefi Ntseki, preventing him from giving his usual
post-match television interview.
PSL prosecutor, Zola Majavu, confirmed the charges on Monday and said the
club will appear before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on 31 October. This
comes after Chiefs were warned that if a similar incident occurred again,
they could face a stadium ban in their next home fixture.
The incident is the latest in a series of spectator misbehaviour involving
Chiefs supporters in recent years. In 2018, the club was fined R250,000
after their supporters threw objects onto the pitch during a match against
Free State Stars. Last year, they were again fined R250,000 for a similar
incident in a match against Maritzburg United.
The PSL has been cracking down on spectator misbehaviour in recent years
and has warned that any further incidents could result in harsher
punishments, such as stadium bans.
