On Friday, Luc Eymael has commented on being linked with Kaizer Chiefs
again in an exclusive interview with the Siya crew.
Following the recent changes in the Chiefs technical team, Eymael’s name
has come up among those of coaches linked with the Soweto giants, sources
have indicated. Chiefs are set to go to their next match this weekend
against Golden Arrows with Cavin Johnson in charge after he replaced
Molefi Ntseki as the head coach earlier in the week, though on an interim
basis.
Several coaches have been linked with Amakhosi in the last few days,
including Nasreddine Nabi, Pitso Mosimane, Manqoba Mngqithi and Muhsin
Ertugral, though it is believed that the club is committed to giving
Johnson the support he needs to turn the team’s fortunes around.
Uefa Pro Licence holder Eymael, who won the Nedbank Cup in 2018 with Free
State Stars, is one of the coaches likely to be recommended to the club,
according to sources.
“Luc Eymael will have his CV forwarded to Chiefs. He is an experienced
coach whose advantage is that he’s got an understanding of South African
football. The coach has always said he’s got unfinished business in the
PSL, and he loves South Africa very much,” said the source.
Five years ago, after he led Stars to cup glory, the Belgian mentor had
been linked with Chiefs before the club decided to appoint Giovanni
Solinas. Eymael was recently linked with Richards Bay, as well as AmaZulu
prior to the start of the season. Apart from Ea Lla Koto, the 64-year-old
previously coached Polokwane City, Bloemfontein Celtic and Black Leopards
in Mzansi.
Contacted for comment, Eymael confirmed his interest in the Chiefs job
though he respects the club’s decision in appointing Johnson. “Of course,
I would be interested if I got an offer but for now, I know they have
given the job to Cavin Johnson,” Eymael said.
