Chiefs Face Tough Competition in Pursuit of Matthews

Friday, 29 Oct 2023, Kaizer Chiefs’ reported pursuit of South African
wide forward Tashreeq Matthews, who is based in Sweden, could gain
momentum given the circumstances around his career.

The Siya crew previously reported that Amakhosi could look into bringing
Matthews back to South Africa from Swedish club IK Sirius, where he has
been in a great form, and has more goal contributions than any South
African this season.

South African renowned agent Rob Moore, who used to manage Matthews,
revealed that the youngster had a chance to sign for Major League Soccer
side Toronto before they scouted Cassius Mailula but he turned them down.
Moore said on the ThisIsFootball.Africa YouTube channel that Matthews had
the chance to go to Toronto in January 2022 and he could have had six
months there, which would have been a great opportunity to learn at a
different level.

Amakhosi have a good chance of signing the former Dortmund striker if they
are serious, and Moore suggested that it would be difficult for Matthews
to get a sizable transfer playing for Sirius. He added that if Matthews
had gone to Toronto and done really well, he could have come back to
Europe on a completely different level.

At 23, perhaps what Matthews needs is to make a big impact at a bigger
club, where he could once again get the attention of the European
heavyweights and also Bafana Bafana.
