Sundowns’ Goalkeeping Dilemma: Balancing Loans and Contracts

Mamelodi Sundowns are believed to be open to offering a new contract to
goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse, as the season heads towards the end. The club
exercised the option in his contract at the end of last season, and a
final decision is expected to be made in the coming weeks.

Ricardo Goss is currently out on loan for two seasons at SuperSport, and
veteran Kennedy Mweene is preparing for the next step in his career, which
is goalkeeper coaching, meaning Sundowns are likely to offer Pieterse a
new deal.

Jody February is out on loan to AmaZulu for the rest of the season, but
the Siya crew understands that there is feeling that he might not be ready
yet to challenge Ronwen Williams for the number one spot. February is seen
as a player who the club can call upon whenever the more senior players
are not available.

At 26, February still has some time on his side to claim the number one
jersey in future at Sundowns, due to the fact that goalkeepers tend to
mature later in their careers. Denis Onyango remains a key figure at
Sundowns and could, in fact, be given a role once he calls time on his
playing career, but Sundowns look set to focus on their younger
goalkeepers to ensure their careers are secured in terms of contracts.
