Chiefs’ Shift in Focus: Why Previous Nedbank Cup Upsets Aren’t a Concern

Kaizer Chiefs have had a rollercoaster ride in the Nedbank Cup, with some
painful defeats in the past.

However, assistant coach Dillon Sheppard has said that the club is not
focusing on the past, but rather looking forward to the upcoming match
against Motsepe Foundation Championship side Casric Stars.

Speaking at a Nedbank Cup press conference held at the PSL headquarters
in Parktown, Johannesburg, Sheppard said: “You don’t want to look at the
past. We are going forward. If you look at the Richards Bay (in 2020/21)
and who the squad has changed, it’s almost a totally different squad. We
have some players who were part of the squad and can share their
experiences, but like I said, we have to look forward with what’s coming
ahead of us.”

The Glamour Boys have been in good form recently, with two clean sheets
in their last two matches. Sheppard said that the team is focused on the
upcoming match and the chance to make it to the quarterfinals. “The guys
are focused and the energy this week has been really good. We just need to
focus game by game and let’s keep moving forward. There is a quarterfinals
berth to play for. Preparations have gone really well. We’ve played two
games, two clean sheets, gaining a little bit of momentum.”

Casric Stars have been in good form in the league this season, and are
currently challenging for automatic promotion in their rookie campaign in
the second tier.

With Thabo Nthethe and Paulus Masehe as assistant coaches, Amakhosi will
have to be on their toes to avoid another upset.
