Chiefs Considering New Contract for Star Midfielder?

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder George Matlou is set to remain at the club for
at least another year, with the technical team recommending that the
former Moroka Swallows player stay on. According to sources, the
25-year-old could be offered a one-year plus another year extension option
on his current contract, which expires in June 2024.

“The technical team is happy with his attitude and performance this season
and they are the ones who have recommended that he be kept at the team for
at least a further year,” said a Siya source. “Management had decided to
offer him that one-year contract plus a one-year option. His current
contract ends in June 2024 so that means he could be at the team until
2026 if the team exercises the one-year option.”

The source added that the parties are hoping to reach an agreement before
December, so that Matlou is not eligible to be a free agent in January.
Another source said that the technical team may want more competition in
the position that Matlou is playing in and he gives them more options. “He
brings in a different dimension to the team and to their game. That’s why
the technical team wants to keep him and management has agreed to that,”
the source said.
