Monday, 13 October, Vasili Manousakis, assistant coach of Cape Town
Spurs, revealed to PSLSA that he had received guidance and advice from his
former colleague and Manchester United forwards coach, Benni McCarthy,
when taking up the job at the Urban Warriors. Manousakis and McCarthy have
been in contact on a weekly basis, discussing tactics, family, and
everything in between.
McCarthy has a strong connection to the club, having burst onto the scene
as a player in 1996. Manousakis believes that McCarthy’s knowledge and
experience has been invaluable, and that he has also been in contact with
former Spurs goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, who has provided him with
positivity and encouragement.
Manousakis also spoke highly of McCarthy’s coaching abilities, stating
that he was not surprised by how well McCarthy has done since taking up
the role at Manchester United. He praised McCarthy’s dynamic approach and
how the players have responded to him.
