Zwane Unveils Missed Transfer Opportunities in January

Kaizer Chiefs coach Arthur Zwane has revealed that the club attempted to
sign more players during the January transfer window. Amakhosi are
currently struggling with a number of injuries to key players, including
Khama Billiat, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo and Reeve Frosler, and the lack of
squad depth is likely to be put to the test.

As previously reported, Chiefs had tried to bring in Thatayaone Ditlhokwe
during the January transfer window after he penned a pre-contract with the
side, but SuperSport United held onto the player as he forms part of their
plans for a top four finish. The Soweto giants are also believed to have
shown an interest in Cape Town City attacker Mduduzi Mdantsane, though
they were unable to secure him.

The only player the Amakhosi signed during the January transfer window was
Congolese striker Christian Saile Basomboli, who has made two appearances
for the side since his arrival.

Speaking at a Nedbank Cup press conference held at the PSL headquarters in
Parktown, Johannesburg, on Monday, Zwane said: “Actually, we were just
unfortunate. We were trying to bring in a few players, but it did not
materialize, so we had to move on and focus on what we have in terms of
playing personnel. Yes, injuries are always going to be there because
football is a contact sport, but I would not want to dwell on the past and
worry about what we could have done (during the transfer window) and what
we did not do. The focus is on the next game and the remaining games of
the season.”
