Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana legend Siphiwe Tshabalala has revealed
what he believes is required in terms of investment to take football on
the African continent to the next level. The 38-year-old, who is yet to
announce his retirement from the game, has thrown his weight behind
worthwhile initiatives off the pitch.
Tshabalala recently formed part of a group of leaders from local and
international organizations, that are aiming to grow football in the
region to cultivate and sustain talent through investment.
“I can’t wait for Africa to dominate. Let’s build something great here.
Let’s have players from Europe wanting to play in Africa, not the other
way around. But it’ll need lots and lots of investment to improve the
standard of football, to improve the infrastructure, and to improve
everything football related,” he said in an interview with Connecting
Africa.
The dreadlocked midfielder’s career saw him go from Free State Stars, to
Kaizer Chiefs and later Erzurumspor in Turkey, before returning to
AmaZulu, where he spent one season. His business partner and former
teammate Reneilwe Letsholonyane was recently appointed as the u17 head
coach at Usuthu.
